In the ‘Canterville Ghost’ project I designed an appropriate period drama for Canterville Chase, the main location in the Oscar Wilde short story.
The first task for this project was to find an appropriate exterior to then use as the starting point for the interior design. My interior set would have to match up to the exterior doors, windows and structure. I chose Beaulieu Palace House in Hampshire as my exterior and took measurements from the house to use for my drawings.
In my drawings I decided to have three main spaces – an entrance hall, a great hall and a library – which would serve for the sequences of the story that I wanted to focus on, and would also fit within the structure of Beaulieu. After the drawings were completed, I was able to construct a white card model. Concept visuals were produced in Adobe Photoshop and I also sequenced out parts of the story using storyboards to explain the routes through my set.
